The band Týr was formed in January 1998 by Faroe Islanders living in Copenhagen (at the time). Týr had their Faroese breakthrough in April 2001 when they participated in the bi-annual 'Prix Føroyar' contest. The live version of the song "Ormurin Langi" as performed at the contest was featured on the "Prix Føroyar 2001" compilation CD. The song became the greatest Faroese hit
